Welcome!

Welcome to Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Federation, 2006 Florida Farm Bureau President’s Award Winner! Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Federation is one of the largest county federations in the state of Florida, with well over 4,500 members and growing. Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Federation works hard to be the “Voice of Agriculture”.

Agriculture is important to every person residing in Hillsborough County. It’s more than the food we eat. It’s the county’s second largest industry. As such, it generates money that benefits everyone. Moreover, its economic contribution will be exceedingly hard to replace if local agriculture is ever lost. “ Quote from Craig Evans, April 2005

State and National News:

HIGH FUEL PRICES AND INCREASING FOOD PRICES "Contrary to all the gaspricesanti-ethanol propaganda, converting corn into renewable fuel is not responsible for the high fuel prices. Most experts agree that corn ethanol isn’t responsible for more than 10 percent to 20 percent of the total increase in food prices. The fact is, $120 a barrel oil is the biggest culprit behind the rising cost of food. Another driving force is the surging demand for more and better food by an escalating middle-income population in China Grocery bills rise, but data show that farmers’ share of the food dollar continues to decline." IMMIGRATION REFORM Florida Farm Bureau members marched for immigration reform, during the Field To The Hill trip in Washington, D.C. on May 13, 2008. Three members of the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Board participated in the march from the American Farm Bureau office to the Capital. Although the labor shortages and immigration is a major concern of farmers, it appears we will have to wait until after the election year to see if Congress will address Immigration Reform. This is a very important economic issue, which has great impact of farmers ability to harvest their crops.
