Hello Friends,
In this issue of In the Field Magazine, is the letter we received from Superintendent of Hillsborough County Schools, Ms. Mary Ellen Elia, in response to a letter the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Federation sent to her, requesting accurate information regarding our Agricultural and Vocational programs in our schools. Her response made it clear that we need to continue to converse with the school board and be a tool for our kids, by becoming involved. We need to help our school board reach a goal of providing our children and grandchildren with the best education possible and giving them the tools needed to be effective leaders and competitors.
I am happy to report, The Blue Ribbon Committee, has been formed and consist of: State Senator Rhonda Storms, her daughter Roxanne, School Board member April Griffin, Roger Rivard of James-Rivard Buick Pontiac GMC, Judi Whitson – Executive Director of Hillsborough County Farm Bureau, Michelle Williamson – G&F Farms and Chairman of Florida Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and myself. This meeting covered such topics as: who should be included, strategy for the most effective progression, when to meet again, and many other things. The ultimate goal is to promote Vo-Tech and AG programs in our schools. We will continue to move forward and keep you informed.
