The Hillsborough County Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Committee is open to any Farm Bureau Woman interested in participating. The women’s committee is involved in many different projects with a focus on agriculture education and promotion.
Some of the women’s committee projects are:
Youth Speech Contest – Youth between the ages of 14-18 have an opportunity to compete at county level, the County winner will then go to district competition and the District winner will go to state competition. The purpose is to promote a stronger interest and clearer understanding of the many aspects of agriculture and give youth the opportunity to gain knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of agriculture and help to promote its many values and virtues. Limit to 5 minutes. Click here for an application, rules, prizes and topics
Ag-Venture – This is an opportunity to tell the story of our county farming operations to third graders in Hillsborough County, this event is held at the Florida State Fair Grounds several times each year. Click here for more information
Food Check Out Day – Held in February, allows the women to get out into the public and promote that: as Americans we enjoy the safest, most abundant and most affordable food supply on earth. This event brings awareness to the fact that it takes just five weeks for the average American to earn enough disposable income to pay for his or her family’s food supply for the entire year. (Based on Agriculture Department Statistics)
Farm City Week – Held the week leading up to Thanksgiving, allows the women to get out into the public and promote the importance of agriculture to our economy as well as the security of our county.
The Youth Open Baking and Craft Show – The Hillsborough County Women’s Committee is also very proud to sponsor and judge this event at the Florida Strawberry Festival each year. There is no entry fee or application; all entries are welcome from youth between the ages of 5-18 (K-12th grade) for crafts, sewing, and baking. Items will be display during the Festival in the Neighborhood Village Building.
Xtreme Cuisine – This is a three-hour cooking school where middle school age children are taught nutrition and also have the opportunity to prepare some great snacks using fresh Florida commodities. This program has really begun to take off and is an opportunity to reach an age that many times is left out of traditional AG-in-the- classroom programs.
These are just a few of our projects. We invite you to come and join us. It is the goal of the Women’s Committee to develop new leaders and we welcome anyone interested in participating.
